A virtual private server is a dedicated server that has been divided into separate virtual containers, each containing a virtual server that is private from the others. In terms of functionality a VPS functions exactly the same as any dedicated server but shares server resources with the other VPS on the same server.

We never overcrowd a container with too many VPS to ensure maximum stability and performance. As multiple VPS are housed on a single server this means a VPS is very cost effective and does not carry the same high price tag a dedicated server would.

Q. What is a VPS?+

A Virtual Private Server or VPS is exactly what it says on the tin. It is a server that is divided into a small number of VPS that share resources. Each VPS is completely "private" from the other VPS and functions the same as a regular server. But as multiple VPS are running under one set of server hardware, the running costs are significantly lower than having your own physical server.

Q. Do I need technical knowledge to use a VPS?+

Yes, a basic level of technical knowledge is required. However, Plesk Panel, the server management software, simplifies the process of managing your VPS. The easy-to-use interface is intuitive and means you do not need to have expert knowledge of server administration. What's more, we provide you with step-by-step user guides and videos to help you along the way.

Q. Can you help me move my VPS across from another provider?+

We do not offer a migration service from other hosting companies, however with the Plesk 11 control panel, you are able to automate the migration yourself if you are using Confix, cPanel, Helm or Plesk for your existing web and email hosting if you have root or administrator level access. A dedicated server is a server that is dedicated to one customer. The full resources of that server are at the customer's disposal making it perfect for highly demanding websites or applications. A VPS is a server that is split into separate segments, each segment behaves like an individual server. This means that a number of VPS can exist on a single server which reduces the cost, but still offers high performance.

Q. Can I get Technical Support for my VPS?+

You will be responsible for the ongoing management and administration of your VPS solution. If any of the hardware on the VPS solution fails then WebFusion will repair it as soon as possible. WebFusion will support and correct any issues arising with the server hardware and hosting infrastructure but cannot guarantee to offer assistance with the correction of software and application faults, or any custom changes made on the system that were not carried out via the Control Panels. If you believe there to be a fault with your actual VPS Solution (other than your own custom settings), then as the server administrator please provide full details to the support team, including any supporting evidence (e.g. error messages and entries from the server logs). Certain fault finding and correction may be performed by WebFusion 1st and 2nd line hosting engineers for an additional charge. For more info please read this support article.
