Email connectivity failures by IP

Created: 25 August 2010, 10:52
Last Updated: --

Some time ago we announced to all customers that we would be changing the IP addresses of some parts of our mail systems. This should not have an effect as all customers are advised to not access email services by IP, rather to use the full domain name to ensure continued service. This is the default behaviour for almost all people, however some do directly access by IP.

As such, those who have used IP to access mail services will now not be able to. Please alter your mail client if you are now having problems to use the new details as below
- mail.myserverworld.net (94.136.40.62)

You should always use the full URI, rather than an IP address. This will ensure no problems moving forward in this area.

The old IP addresses that have been turned off are :
- 194.154.164.64
- 194.154.164.62

Any reference you have to these IP addresses should be updated.

Some time ago we announced to all customers that we would be changing the IP addresses of some parts of our hosting systems. This should not have an effect as all customers are advised to not access these services directly by IP, rather to use the full domain name to ensure continued services.

This is the default behaviour for almost all domains, however some customers do modify to directly access by IP.

As such, those who have used IP to access FTP or to resolve their domain names to should update the details as per the information within your control panel.

You should always use the full URI, rather than an IP address. This will ensure no problems moving forward in this area.

Dedicated server IP renumbering

Created: 27 August 2010, 10:27
Last Updated: --

As communicated we are undergoing changes to the IP addresses which are used for some of our dedicated server customers.
Please see emails that have been sent with reference to the replacement IP addresses.

The following articles will help with any changes that have to be made :
Windows: http://www.webfusion.co.uk/support/answers/updating-your-dedicated-windows-server-ip-address-to-your-new-ip-details-1966/
Linux: http://www.webfusion.co.uk/support/answers/updating-your-dedicated-linux-server-ip-address-to-your-new-ip-details-1969/

You have to check all domains to ensure they are resolving to the new IP addresses as well as any DNS settings are answering correctly.

Any scripts that you have which connect out or to your system may require updating, including any payment gateways that you use.

Services running on your server such as email, web and spam filtering should be setup to use the new IP addresses.

Firewalls and security policies need to be updated.
