How do I back up my entire VPS in Virtuozzo?

This article will explain how to backup your entire VPS.

How do I create an image backup of my VPS using Virtuozzo?

An image backup backs up the entire VPS into one image, inclusive of all operating system files, databases, passwords, files, domains, etc.

The Virtuozzo control panel offers you the ability to create upto two image backups of the entire Virtual Private Server. This is distinct and different from the backups in Plesk, which can back up individual domains and clients.

Why to do it:

Since it is located on the hardware node of the VPS and not in the VPS itself, it will survive even a complete VPS reinstallation.

It contains everything from databases to passwords , files to domains and the whole OS.

Be aware:

Image backups back up an entire VPS. It is not possible to backup or restore individual domains, files or databases using this method.

This can not be automated and must be done manually by logging into Virtuozzo. We recommend that you do it every week, so that you have the most up-to-date backup for all eventualities.

You cannot download, access or otherwise save the backup onto your system. It is located on the hardware node and outside the VPS. Therefore, you are limited to only two backups per VPS.

As the backup is a complete image of the VPS, it will recreate any operating systems issues that existed before a rebuild of the VPS.

How to do it:

There is an excellent Flash video of the entire procedure on our support site, to view it please click here.

The steps in brief are:

1

Log into Virtuozzo at https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:4643 (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx stands for the IP address of your VPS)

2

On the left hand side, click on "Maintenance".

The next screen will tell us if any backups have already been created.

It also gives us options to:

  • Create a New Backup.
  • Reinstall the VPS from scratch
  • Linux VPS will have an option to enter "Repair Mode", a command prompt based recovery console for the system.

Selecting a specific backup also allows us to:

  • Renew backup: The backup will be updated to the current date and time.
  • Restore the VPS using the backup
  • Remove the specific backup.
