When you buy a WebFusion dedicated server with Ubuntu Linux, you get one of the fastest-growing operating systems around.

This version of Linux is ultra-reliable and easy to use. It is fully supported until June 2011, so you can have complete confidence in the stability and security of your dedicated server.

Fully managed or root access - your choice

Sometimes you want full control. Sometimes you want everything taken care of. That's why we offer two access options for our Linux dedicated servers:

  • Fully managed. We take care of your server for you. We apply all security updates and patches, as well as installing and configuring software for you.
  • Root level access. This gives you total control over every aspect of your server. You can install whatever you like, and you become solely responsible for the security and maintenance of your server.

Our dedicated servers come fully managed as standard - please let us know if you want root level access instead.

If you do opt for root access, we will be unable to provide a patching and update service or offer any technical support.

Apache web server

Host as many sites as you like with Apache 2.0. Every website runs as a separate user - and you get full access to all configuration options, both server-wide and site-specific.

Server-side scripting

Our dedicated Linux servers include scripting support for over twenty languages, including: Python 2.4, TCL, JavaScript (SpiderMonkey), Bash, Korn Shell, Zsh, Haskell (hugs), Basic (yabasic), Smalltalk (GNU Smalltalk), Parrot, Perl 6 (pugs), S-Lang, Pike, Lua, Bourne Shell, TCsh, Dash (Almquist Shell), BF, Unlambda, and Whitespace.

PHP

Our Ubuntu servers include PHP versions 4 and 5. Features include:

  • Smarty templating system
  • PEAR modules including: DB, Mail, XML_RPC, XML_Parser, HTTP_Request
  • PEAR client for adding additional PEAR and PECL extensions

Perl 5.8.7

Run Perl scripts on your dedicated server. Includes:

  • DBI for MySQL
  • MVC frameworks including: Catalyst, CGI::Application
  • Choice of templating languages: Template Toolkit, HTML::Template, HTML::Mason
  • Object-relational mappers: Class::DBI, DBIx::Class
  • Hundreds more modules including CGI, DateTime, Email::Simple, Email::Valid, GD, Image::Magick, Image::Size, JSON, List::MoreUtils, LWP, Regexp::Common, WWW::Mechanize, YAML, XML::LibXML, cpan script for installing additional modules.

Ruby

Version 1.8, includes Ruby on Rails.

MySQL database server

Create unlimited mySQL databases with your WebFusion Ubuntu Linux dedicated server. Version 5 of the enterprise class MySQL database server is installed. You can have as many databases and user accounts as you lik - full root access gives you any level of customisation.

Mail server

The included Qmail mail server supports unlimited domains, mailboxes, auto-responders and forwarders. Access your mail using POP3, IMAP, SMTP and the web.

Clam anti-virus

Your dedicated server has built in virus protection to keep you safe.

  • All messages are scanned for viruses as your server receives them
  • New virus definitions are downloaded and installed automatically, so new viruses pose less of a threat.

SPAM Bouncer mail filtering

Make spam a thing of the past with this powerful anti-spam solution. Filters incoming emails for spam and ensures your server's performance is not affected by large volumes of junk email.

Webalizer graphical stats

See in-depth statistics about all websites hosted on your dedicated server - graphically. You also get access to raw log files, so you can manipulate the data with a tool of your choice.
